Week #3: What is Faith?

May 20, 2019 By Angela Grover Leave a Comment

Hebrews 11:1
What is faith?  It is the confident assurance that what we hope for is going to happen.  It is the evidence of things we cannot yet see.

The month of May we’ve been exploring where your relationship is with Jesus Christ and the possible reasons that may be stopping you from growing your relationship.

This week I want you to really delve into the above verse.  I honestly believe that the reason why most Christians are not living a passion-filled life with Jesus is because they don’t know the Bible and therefore don’t believe what God says in His word.  And when you’re living a spiritually dead faith it’s pretty hard to feel passionate about it.

Ask yourself where you're faith is at on...
- salvation for loved ones
- answering our prayers
- healing us when we're sick
- about Satan and how he operates in our lives

Faith is defined as complete trust or confidence in something or someone.
Faith is not passive – meaning if you have faith in someone or something there is a corresponding action to it.

If we cannot have faith in God's word aka have complete trust and confidence how can we possible have joy and peace during hard times? How can any intimate relationship grow if we feel the other person is lying or holding back from us?

As you pray and meditate on this week's Scripture ask God to reveal to you what you're struggling to believe in His word.

In Isaiah 7:9 God says,
"If you want me to protect you, learn to believe what I say."

These are some powerful words! So let's get started!! Let's start learning what God says about our lives and how we should live them so we can learn to believe what God says in the Bible so we can have a powerfully Holy Spirit led life!

Action Plan: Since the only way to grow our relationship and thereby our faith is to spend time with God, this week I would like you to set-up your prayer closet.  If you don’t have a closet you can dedicate no problem, you can use a large cardboard box that can fold so you can take your prayer closet even in the bathroom if that’s the only place to be alone.  Be inventive.

Below is a pic of my prayer closet.  It is full of Scripture as well as prayers.  Some prayer requests I’ve added pictures of the person I’m praying for.  I have Scripture that I’m learning to stand on as well as to remind me how God wants me to live.

Faith- Creating Your Prayer Closet

When I’m in my prayer closet I always read the Bible so I make sure I have paper and pens handy for any revelations God may give me.

Building a passion filled faith where God is moving the mountains out of our lives requires time, dedication and routine.  Having a prayer closet that I can go to every morning helps me with that.

So I encourage to add Scripture that you’re struggling to believe, add Scripture that you’re trying to stand on right now, add Scripture that gives you hope and peace.  In the journal I have in my prayer closet I keep the prayers that have been answered – they uplift and encourage me when some prayers take longer to answer.

Extra Scripture to read:

Romans 1:17
Mark 11:22-25
John 14:12-14
